Marketing Communications Manager  

Job Description:  

The Aquila Group of Funds offers a niche product line with a local and research-driven investment approach. The fund family consists of seven single‐state municipal bond funds offered in Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Kentucky, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Utah, and two distinctive national strategies: a corporate high‐yield bond fund and an equity strategy. A local investment approach is applied to the management of the municipal bond funds, with high‐quality intermediate maturity portfolios, and locally‐based portfolio management, Trustees, Fund Officers, and shareholder meetings. Extensive fundamental research, disciplined investment process, and a detailed knowledge of the respective financial markets are hallmarks of the high-yield corporate bond fund, Aquila High Income Fund, and the equity strategy, Aquila Opportunity Growth Fund.

This position will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications, with responsibility for assignments related to messaging, and the development, maintenance, and execution of fund‐related marketing material, including print collateral and website content.

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Under the direction of the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications, actively engage in promoting Aquila’s high‐quality brand and investment messaging across all marketing communication channels, including print media, company website and social media.
  • Work closely with the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications, colleagues of the firm’s Distribution organization, and internal and external sales associates, to maintain knowledge of Aquila’s distribution channels and provide appropriate marketing material, presentations, and email communication tools to support business objectives.
  • Assist in maintaining the suite of marketing material for Aquila’s existing product line and, when needed, creation of additional material for new products. Examples include fund fact sheets, sales ideas, brochures, presentations, market commentaries, etc.
  • Participate in managing the firm’s social media presence on LinkedIn, including development of compliant messaging.
  • Manage tasks related to the development and execution of a wide variety of marketing and communications initiatives. These tasks include strategic ideation, content creation, including copywriting and editing, creative design, production, etc.
  • Assist with e‐marketing email campaign development, which consists of creation and execution of targeted email marketing programs, optimization of email design and functionality, as well as metric review and analysis.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the Aquila Group of Funds website through the production of timely updates to marketing material, articles, fund information, and technical and functionality enhancements.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of non‐product, value-add material. This includes thought leadership and market-related insights, along with practice management programs for financial professionals.

  • Oversee the process to ensure timely and accurate filing of marketing material for FINRA regulatory review. Similarly, manage the process pertaining to submission of marketing material for Broker-Dealer review (via the 4U Platform).
  • Continually increase knowledge of the markets and asset classes in which our funds invest, and the technical and software skills needed to effectively and efficiently maintain and produce marketing materials and other forms of communications.

 Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • FINRA Series 6 or Series 7 registrations are preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the investment industry, with a focus on marketing strategies, and creation of support materials and content.
  • Mutual fund product and distribution knowledge is required.

 Core Competencies:

  • Expert in digital marketing, including the creation and maintenance of email marketing programs, website maintenance and functionality, social media marketing, among others.
  • Proficient in graphic design tools and applications, such as Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, as well as Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Deep working knowledge of WordPress, HTML-coding, and website hosting protocols.
  • Strong understanding of Salesforce and similar Customer Relationship Management systems.
  • Willingness to learn and use new technologies, as needed.
  • Knowledge of the investment industry, markets, and related products.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, including the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Creative and innovative thinker who can initiate ideas for both product and non-product marketing literature.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships throughout the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate within a team environment.
